Can University prepare you as a business owner? Alpha Gamma Solutions joins the debate

March 25, 2016 Business

With talks about whether or not universities are doing enough to help students start businesses rife, Alpha Gamma Solutions promote the importance of practical experience over text book learning.

According to research conducted by Santander, more than a quarter of students have started, or plan to start, a small venture while studying. However, only 10% have ambitions to start a business or continue with their existing venture after university. Students were also asked to rate the support and information offered to them on starting a business after graduating – more than a third stated that it was “OK, but could be better”, while over a quarter felt it was poor or very poor.

Alpha Gamma Solutions believe that although University provides extremely beneficial life skills it does not prepare students with the skills needed to be a successful business owner. The firm believes that certain skills and opportunities are needed to be successful in business, including practical hands-on learning, learning from mistakes, overcoming challenges, networking with industry leaders, as well as learning from those already performing well in the industry.

Alpha Gamma Solutions state how they believe working in certain environments allows people to gain these experiences and shape themselves into successful business owners by developing grit, confidence and other entrepreneurial traits. The firm highlight how they offer these valuable opportunities through their business development opportunity which encourages young aspiring entrepreneurs to develop their skill sets in leadership, sales, public speaking, finance, management, and more in order to become a well-rounded, successful business owner.

Alpha Gamma Solutions is an outsourced sales and marketing firm based in Leicester which delivers unique direct marketing campaigns on behalf of their clients’ brands. The firm connects with consumers on a face-to-face basis which allows them to establish long-lasting and personal business relationships between brand and consumer. In turn, this often leads to increased customer acquisition, brand awareness and brand loyalty for their clients.

Managing Director at Alpha Gamma Solutions, Alex Graf is a graduate from St Mary’s University where he studied Sports Science and Marketing. Whilst the Managing Director feels he has transferred some skills from his marketing degree into his business he believes that most of the valuable business lessons and business advice he learnt came from experience within the industry and from business professionals and mentors.
