Sales firm Alpha Gamma Solutions has looked into how smart athletes can turn their skills into long-lasting business traits and continue their success as business professionals.

At school and university Alex Graf, Managing Director of Alpha Gamma Solutions, was a keen swimmer and believes that his sports background helped him to become a successful businessman. The business owner states that he completely understands how a sports background, or being driven in sport, can help people to be successful in business.

In a recent article, Alex Graf also revealed that he studied sports science at university but was told the shocking statistic that 78% of people on his course would not find jobs in their chosen field. Mr. Graf decided that he would use his passion and drive for sport and turn these into successful business traits, he now runs his own business.

Here, Alpha Gamma Solutions has revealed just some of the successful athletes who continued their success in the business world and became entrepreneurs:

Venus Williams – Tennis star and founder of two companies
The successful tennis star didn’t wait for retirement to start her own company, and the seven-time Grand Slam singles champion is now the founder and CEO of two successful companies – clothing line EleVen, and interior design company, V Starr Interiors. She told Forbes Magazine, “Applying those lessons of perseverance and learning from mistakes and setting goals has definitely helped me in business.”

George Foreman – Boxer with his own business career
Making a name for himself in the 1968 Olympic games when he knocked out Jonas Cepulis to secure a gold medal, the boxer went on to launch his own business career. He introduced the George Foreman Lean Mean Grilling Machine in 1994 and went on to launch a variety of products including environmentally friendly cleaning products and a clothing line.

Lewis Howes – Footballer turned seven-figure business owner
Howes left college early to pursue a career in professional football but unfortunately picked up a career-ending injury shortly into his first season. Quickly switching gears, Howes turned his obsession for business and marketing into a multi-million dollar online media company.

Maria Sharapova – Tennis champion and founder of a candy line
The five-time Grand Slam champion finds time off the tennis court to take on the world of business. She founded the premium candy line, Sugarpova, in 2013, and saw great success in the first year, selling over two million bags of candy.

Alpha Gamma Solutions advises that business professionals need to have the correct mentality and understand how they can always use the skills they have to work to their advantage. The firm points out that, “In sports it can take just one moment or one injury to lose your career, and then what? If you don’t know how to work what you have to your advantage you will never be successful in anything,” highlights Alpha Gamma Solutions.

Alpha Gamma Solutions believes that many of the attributes that can be found in sports stars can transfer well to business. For example: commitment, training, routine, structure, competitiveness, ambition, being a perfectionist and always striving to be better. Alpha Gamma Solutions are confident that these are all traits found in those with a sporting background and believe that transferred to business they can make these sporting stars successful for many years after they retire.
